Weekly team practice schedule:

-PAY ATTENTION TO NEW PRACTICE TIME AND MEETING LOCATION

-This week we are going to conduct a Tuesday practice only.  On Thursday Please get out on your own and spin your legs, clean your bike with special focus on your drivetrain.  Make sure the bike is in proper working order before race #2.  Race #2 is at a ski resort.  You will be climbing right off the start!

-Many of our student athletes and adult volunteers are getting tired of the BST Trail system at Red Butte Gardens.  On Tuesday we are going to practice on the Mormon Pioneer Trail system.  This will switch things up for everyone and offer you a climbing trail system to match your effort on Saturdays race course.

-For those of you that do not have transportation to the trail head we will meet at the SHOPKO parking lot and match up students with adult volunteer drivers.  There is no carpool sign up for this event.  I am going off historical weekly attendance numbers. (volunteer drivers please contact me with seats available and bikes you can transport drewcycle@gmail.com).

SCHEDULE:

Tuesday 16 September

Time: 5:00pm-7:00pm

(Students requiring transportation depart/return Sugarhouse SHOPKO 4:30pm-7:30pm)

Location: Mormon Pioneer TR (meet at Little Dell Reservoir parking lot)

From SLC:

-Take I-80 East

-Take exit 134 for UT-65 N toward East Canyon

-Turn left on UT-65N

-Drive approximately .6 mile and Mountain a Dell Reservoir parking lot will be on your right

-Enter parking lot ($5 parking fee waived for mountain bikers)

Saturday 20 September

Time: 9:00am-4:30pm

Location: Race #2 Nordic Valley Ski Resort Eden UT

Note: food and drink provided by the team.  Bagels in the am and sandwiches in the PM.  Family members and friends invited to join us under the tents.  We look forward to seeing everyone!

Directions: (see note at beginning of this notice regarding alternate routes due to road closures for XTERRA event).

From Salt Lake City UT I-15 North to US 89 North for 7.5 miles and merge onto I-84 East via the ramp to Morgan/Evanston. At 4.4 miles take exit 92 for UT-167 toward Mountain Green/Huntsville. Turn left onto UT-167 N/N 6300 West. Continue to follow UT-167 North 9.5 miles. Turn right onto UT-39E/UT-39 Scenic E 1.8 miles. Road curves north and becomes State Road 166. Follow 166 as it winds around Pine View Reservoir (turning west and north and west and north) and into Eden where 166 is 5500 East. At State Rte 158, turn left and follow 2.4 miles, it joins route 162. Turn left onto 3300 North heading east. Turn left onto 3500 North for .6 miles. Left on Nordic Valley Way .5 miles

Saturday Sept 13 Nordic V pre-ride

We will practice and pre-ride the Nordic Valley race course from 10 am to noon.
 
Coach Lucy can carpool three riders and bikes leaving from the Sheraton parking lot at 150 W 500 S in SLC at 8:30 AM and returning at 3:00 PM

Official practice ends at noon with snacks in the parking lot at Nordic Valley.  Coach Lucy will stay after practice and do a ride at her own pace for about an hour. Student athletes are welcome to ride the mountain on their own at this time a well. Coach Lucy's carpool will not be returning to the Sheraton  until 3:00 PM.

Practice canceled Tuesday 9 September due to weather

We are canceling practice today due to weather. The weather radar highlights new storm systems which keep generating just west of us. They appear to be tracking south of SLC but to play it safe there is no practice today. Keep on top of your training for the upcoming race on 20 September. The race course is steep (453' elevation gain) and each lap is short (3.1 miles). Keep those climbing legs primed we will see you on Thursday!

HS MTB practice schedule 9,11,13 September

To all of our student athletes…. Great race yesterday!   For some of you it was a new experience.  Others it was a personal best, and for some of you it was a chance to be on the podium. A special shout out to:

-Rachel Anders who finished 2nd in Varsity Girls

-Lia Westermann who finished 1st in JV Girls

-Brogan Cole who finished 2nd in Freshman Boys Div 2. 

-Sam Morris who finished 6th in Sophomore Boys Div 2

Congratulations to the SLC Composite Team.  After tabulating the team points SLC Composite finished in second place for Division 2!

The Basics:

A big shout out to our generous team sponsors. They have made it possible to provide food to our team student athletes, parents, and siblings on race day!

-593 student athletes pre-registered for race #1.
-Pre riding the course on Friday is available. coach Lucy and I will be on site Friday afternoon at 4pm helping out with the middle school race. Call or text if you will be pre riding and we will get you set up.
-The Pit Zone is where everyone can spend the day. Look for the East HS and SLC Composite pop up tents. Bring a chair to sit in and enjoy the day with us. Family and friends are invited to join us in the Pit Zone.... This is your team and your school pride.... Bring some attitude and be prepared to cheer on the student athletes!
-I know that some of you like to tune out with music in your ears to motivate you for your race. If this is part of your pre-race preparation I understand. After your race please unplug your headphones and join the rest of your teammates and friends cheering on others.
-This year the league is rotating the start times for each division at each race. For race #1 the Sophomores and Freshman will start at 9:30am. Check the flyer link above for other start times. All of our students are in division 2. It is important for you to be present for your race, but it is also important to spend the day with us cheering on your teammates. We will be set up at 8:30am and the final awards will start at 4pm. We hope that you will be able to spend a majority of your day with us. If adults have other commitments please consider setting up carpools to allow your student athletes more time at the race venue.
-If you have NOT pre-registered bring your paperwork and payment to the registration tent. On site registration will be very crowded so be in line at least 1 hour prior to your race.
If you HAVE pre registered we will have your race plate at the team tents.
-If you are on scholarship I have your race plate but you must go to the registration tent and check in for each race.
-Bring sunscreen and a change of clothes with you so that you will be comfortable after your race.
-It is your responsibility to review your finish time and placement on the score board after your race. You must file a protest on site with a coaches assistance if you believe there is an error. The protest window does not extend past race day.
-The coaching staff looks forward to seeing all of you on race day. It can be a little crazy and hectic. Just come by the team tents, set up your chair, and enjoy the day with us!
