A Note from Coach Bodnar
ALL:

Thank you for participating in the 2015 East High Mountain Bike Team!! On behalf of the coaching staff and as head coach, I want to welcome your son/daughter and YOU, to the team. Parents are such an important and vital part of our team. The coaching staff and team management have busy lives and we require your support, so thank you in advance.

A lot of work has taken place to get to this point. Team organizing and Fund Raising is still a priority! Be thinking how you may be able to contribute in one way or another. This past week has been filled with completing the final kit design, confirming kit sizes with several of our racers and completing the formal ordering process to assure that our team kits arrive before the first race. I'm told we got the order in just in time. They were still working on several other schools' orders.

THE NEXT STEPS
Kit Payment: With the kits (racing uniform) ordered, it is necessary to make the payment for the kits. The cost is $99.  I will give you further instruction on just how we intend to have you make those payments. For now, just plan for that amount to be paid very soon.

Register with NICA: You will receive an email from me with a link that will direct you how to register as a racer with NICA. This registration is what provides you the discounts at Contender Bike Shop and is required for racing in the league.

TeamSnap Sign-Up: You will receive and email from you that will direct you how to sign up for teamsnap. This is a sport team management service you can access online or through an app on your smart phone. It will have details of our practice schedule, races and any other events which will include notices for cancellations and other important details pertaining to scheduling, carpooling etc....  ALL STUDENT ATHLETES AND PARENTS ARE TO SIGN UP!

June Fun Rides: Tuesday June 23rd @ 5:30 Location TBD  &  Tuesday June 30th @5:30 Location TBD. Check TeamSnap for further details

Season Practice Schedule: Begins July 7th @ 5:30 Location TBD. Details will be provided for on TeamSnap. Practices will continue to be on Tuesdays and Thursday from that point forward starting @ 5:30, then on Saturdays beginning at 8:00. Practices will include technical skill training, specific race training, endurance strengthening and muscle development. In addition, it will provide opportunity for the student-athletes to enjoy the outdoors and learn to appreciate this incredible place we live.  Quick note: I realize it's summer and there will be a lot of family vacation and travel (myself included). We are totally flexible with your summer schedules. We encourage all student athletes to come to as many practices as possible to be ready for race season. That said, you will certainly be dragging if you do not get out there on the bike!

JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT TEAM FOR 7TH AND 8TH GRADERS

All you need to know for now is to come out and join us for practices! The first race to look forward to is August 15th in Eagle Mountain. It will be necessary to register with NICA in order to race. You will receive an email from me directing you how to do this!  The Jr. Development Team is not required to purchase the East Hight Team kit (race jersey uniform).

I'm excited for the upcoming season and look forward to working with you all!

(If you have received this email and have not attended either of our information meetings and your son or daughter would like to know more, please contact me as soon as possible. This email has been delivered to all student athletes who have committed to the team, their parents and a few others who have shown interest. Please inform me if you DO NOT wish to receive any further emails concerning the East High Mountain Bike team and the East High Jr. Development Mountain Bike Team.)

Best,

Patrick Bodnar

High School MTB racing was just the start.... So you want to race your bike this summer.......

Dear Team members and parents.  The 2015 MTB race season is fast approaching and several of you have inquired about how to stay involved in the race scene.  Listed below I have some general information on events.  You can race in your high school team jersey as an independent this summer or you can join one of the many local teams here in Utah.  The link to Cycling Utah listed below is a definite bookmark on your computer.  All information regarding cycling locally including team information and social events can be found here! The mid-week race series listed below is a lot of fun!!!!! it is low key with lots of raffle prizes at the end of the race.  The ICUP series is listed below as well and is one of the most comprehensive race series in Utah.  Last but not least our very own coach Chris Magerl is sponsoring a dirt fondo  race just west of SLC this summer with some of the proceeds going to the Utah HS MTB League.  In Utah we have a real problem…. The question is not "I wonder if there is a race this weekend."  The question is "which race should I do this weekend."  Looking forward to seeing you all out on the dirt soon!

Regards
 Drew Jordan

Below is an email from Mr. Dave Harward who along with his wife have been instrumental in setting up and running the Utah High School MTB League.  Dave is starting up a new MTB team this summer.  If you are interested in joining you will be a "plank-owner" of the team.  Bottom line is that you will help shape the direction and outcome of the team.  Dave is very tuned in to the cycling community not only here in UT, but throughout the country.  He coaches juniors and adults alike.  He performs bike fits, and runs three indoor cycling training studios along the Wasatch Front.  Please read his email below and you will understand his desire to have fun on the bike.  Like many of you know mountain bike training and racing can be hard, but the support from fellow teammates and the camaraderie is something we all enjoy.  I really believe in Dave's approach and his level of professionalism is incredible!  I am excited to be riding and racing with the Plan 7 team this summer and if you are interested in joining please feel free to contact me.  The discount code listed in Dave's email will provide a good discount off of your order.  Personally I have purchased a century cut jersey.  All the other items for sale are optional so do not feel like you have to buy a complete kit to be on the team.  Remember this team is open to everyone (Adults/ parents/ students/ siblings/ sideline enthusiasts……etc.  After a few administrative meetings Dave will have a feel for the direction of team and will adjust accordingly.  Please note that this team is local and is NOT affiliated with NICA or the Utah HS MTB League.  If you are interested please purchase your ride gear before 4PM on the 13th of February!

Email from Dave Harward who runs Plan 7 Coaching (www.plan7coaching.com):

"Some of you have expressed interest in racing MTB/CX for the PLAN7 team. Others I'm sending to hoping you'd be interested. If you know of anyone else interested in rocking the trails with us pass this along!

We will have fun. I'm letting this team grow organically. As we see the direction of growth we will build structure to support it. Cannondale and 1st Endurance are quite supportive of what we are doing. I can get in to their offers later but they are solid!

I would like to focus on building some structure for junior racers and helping them build experience. We will do a regular MTB group ride, likely on Thursday nights.

If you're in, head on out to the PLAN7 Online Store and get your order in:

Make sure to use the Team discount code: PLAN730T. The store will be open for 7-10 days. I want to wrap it up sooner than later so we can get clothing here ASAP!"

SLC COMPOSITE, EAST HS, JUDGE HS TEAM PHOTO AND 2015 LEADERSHIP INFO

Dear students and parents,
Welcome to 2015 and another great year of outdoor adventures. Planning for the 2015 race season has already started and we need adult volunteers to step forward as coaches and ride leaders and lead our student athletes . All of you that were registered in 2014 have been receiving emails from the Utah HS MTB League titled "Singletrack Times". In case you missed the latest issue here is the link:

https://madmimi.com/p/fac6a5?fe=1&pact=27833483373

Lucy and I finished our last season as head coaches in 2014 and were rewarded with so many wonderful moments and experiences from all of you...... Thank you! Moving forward many adults have stepped forward to volunteer their time as volunteers in 2015. The reoccurring statement is "I would like to help out, but I can not take on the task of head coach by myself." I totally understand these statements and believe that as we grow we will need a core of adult volunteers to move forward. If we can disseminate the duties and logistics involved we can make this a very enjoyable and rewarding experience for everyone. We also have an experienced cadre of returning student athletes who will be a great asset as we incorporate them in to more of a leadership role with our new student athletes.

I have developed this team for three years and have a lot of knowledge that I can share with our adult volunteers. You will lead the charge and I will be in the background available to assist as needed. My goal is to act as an occasional ride leader volunteering with the teams as my schedule permits. If you are an adult interested in getting involved please get in touch with me. Upcoming class requirements as an adult volunteer for Leadership, Wilderness First Aid, and CPR are approaching and you will need to attend (refer to Singletrack Times newsletter). I look forward to hearing from you soon and I wish all of you a great new year!

Kind Regards
Drew Jordan
